Is Athens dangerous to visit?

Pickpockets and other petty thieves are the most common crimes aimed at travelers in Athens, so be on the lookout for these crimes. Take special care when you are on public transportation and at crowded attractions.

Also try to avoid certain areas in the centre of Athens specially during night hours. Areas such as Omonoia, Votanikos, Plateia Amerikis, Plateia Voktorias can be considered as dangerous.
